Alma Dal Co joins the NCCR Microbiomes

Alma Dal Co

We offer our warmest welcome to Alma Dal Co as a new PI of the NCCR Microbiomes!

Alma Dal Co has a Master in Physics of Complex System from the University of Turin, and a PhD in Systems Biology from the ETH Zurich. In 2019, she started her postdoctoral research at Harvard University in Cambridge (Massachusetts). Alma Dal Co was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computational Biology at the University of Lausanne, starting in September 2021.

Alma Dal Co’s research explores the dynamics of complex biological systems, from organs to microbial communities. In particular, she is interested in how interactions between individual microbial cells give rise to community functions. Her research builds on both experimental work, relying on microscopy and microfluidics, and computational work, with the help of spatially-explicit mathematical models. Her recent research has highlighted the key role of spatial structure and short-range metabolic interactions in shaping the organization and functioning of microbial communities.

You can learn more about Alma Dal Co’s research on her lab website.
