Claire Bertelli appointed Assistant Professor in the NCCR Microbiomes
Our warmest congratulations to Claire Bertelli, who was appointed PI of the NCCR Microbiomes!
Claire Bertelli holds a PhD in Microbial Genomics from the University of Lausanne. She has pursued her research as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) and at the Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. Since 2017, Dr. Bertelli is the Head Bioinformatics of the Genomics and Metagenomics Laboratory at the Institute of Microbiology in CHUV (IMUL), and since 2020 a member of the NCCR Microbiomes. She was appointed Assistant Professor Tenure-track in Clinical Metagenomics at IMUL, starting in August 2022.
Claire Bertelli studies microorganisms in the clinical context, building bioinformatics tools for next-generation sequence analysis across genomics and metagenomics. Her recent research includes the development of computational tools for the comparative analysis of bacterial genomic islands, analyses of SARS-CoV-2 spread in Switzerland, and the implementation of microbiota profiling in clinical diagnostics. She will pursue her research on the role of the microbiota along the gut-brain axis and the translation of microbiota analyses as diagnostic tools in clinical microbiology.
