Alexander Loy on sulfur, bacteria and the human gut

NCCR Microbiomes Seminar Series

We are delighted to announce that Alexander Loy, Professor for Microbial Communities at the University of Vienna, will be our next guest in the NCCR Seminar Series. Prof. Loy is Deputy Head of the Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science, Deputy Operational Director of the Joint Microbiome Facility (University of Vienna and Medical University of Vienna), Faculty Member of the Austrian Polar Research Institute, and Executive Committee Member of the Austrian Microbiome Initiative (AMICI).

The Loy Lab focuses on microbial ecology, including evolution and ecology of sulfur microorganisms, the function of the complex symbiotic microbiota of animals and humans in health and disease, and the development of molecular and isotope-labeling methods for studying uncultivated microorganisms in their natural environment. In 2012, Alexander Loy was honored with the Young Scientist Award of the City of Vienna.

Prof. Loy will give an NCCR talk entitled: ‘Of mice and Popeye: microbial sulfur metabolism in the gut’. The seminar will take place on 7 June 2022, from 12h00 to 13h00 CEST. You can access this public seminar through this Zoom link.
