Cara Magnabosco on microbial life deep underground

NCCR External Seminar

On 6 June, we are thrilled to host Cara Magnabosco, Professor of Geobiology in the Department of Earth Sciences at ETH Zurich.

Prof. Magnabosco develops computational methods to better understand microbial systems, notably to detect signatures of ecological and environmental changes in microbial genomes. Her research group explores and collects microbiomes in the deep subsurface and in other terrestrial habitats. She is especially interested in microbial evolution throughout Earth’s history and their interactions in the modern world.

Cara Magnabosco is also Associate Director of the newly created Centre for Origin and Prevalence of Life at ETH Zurich. This multidisciplinary research centre investigates the origin of life on Earth, and the possibilities for life on other planets.

Prof. Magnabosco will give an NCCR talk entitled: ‘Genetic diversity in subsurface microbial lineages: divergence, convergence or evolutionary stasis’. The seminar will take place on 6 June 2023, from 12h00 to 13h00 CEST. You can access this public seminar through this Zoom link.
