Lucio Isa on guided assembly of microbial communities

On 4 March 2025, the NCCR Microbiomes Seminar Series is excited to host Lucio Isa, Professor in the Department of Materials at ETH Zurich.

Lucio Isa’s group engineers synthetic active systems to study and control their dynamics. Recently, the group has applied guided assembly techniques for the patterning of bacteria in regular lattices, which can be used in applications such as antibiotics screening. Using microfluidics-based methods, the Isa lab explores the bottom-up design of complex microbial communities with single-cell resolution.

In 2019 Lucio Isa won a Golden Owl at ETH Zurich for his exceptional teaching. In 2020, he was awarded a prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant for the development of a new class of active microparticles. He was promoted as Full Professor of Soft Materials and Interfaces in 2024.

Lucio Isa will give a talk entitled ‘Capillary assembly as a tool for screening bacterials systems and assembling living materials’. The seminar will take place on 4 March 2025, from 12h00 to 13h00 CET. You can access this public seminar through this Zoom link.
