Thomas Hitch on the functional ecology of the gut microbiota

On October 6th 2026, the NCCR Microbiomes Seminar Series is pleased to welcome Thomas Hitch, Assistant Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Thomas Hitch’s research explores the functional ecology of the human gut microbiota, with a strong focus on identifying novel microbial species, understanding their roles within the gut ecosystem, and using this knowledge to develop strategies for targeted microbiome modulation to improve human health. Since 2026, he is Assistant Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, he has been an Assistant Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where his work combines bioinformatics, microbial ecology, and experimental microbiology to advance microbiome research and microbial taxonomy.

Thomas Hitch will give a talk titled “Beyond Taxonomy: The Ecology of Proteins in the Human Gut”. The seminar will take place on Tuesday 6 Ocotber 2026, from 12h00 to 13h00 CEST.
