Yuping Li on  genetic and evolutionary study of bacteria-jumbophage interactions

On December 1st 2026, the NCCR Microbiomes Seminar Series is pleased to welcome Yuping Li, Professor, Biozentrum, University of Basel.

Prof. Yuping Li is an assistant professor at the University of Basel, where her research explores the interactions between bacteria and jumbophages, a group of viruses with exceptionally large genomes and distinctive properties. Her group investigates how these phages interact with their hosts, how bacteria defend themselves against infection, and how phages may evade those defenses. Combining computational and experimental approaches, her work sheds light on the evolutionary arms race between bacteria and their viruses.

Yuping Li will give a talk titled “Unraveling Interactions between Bacteria and Nucleus-Forming Jumbophage“. The seminar will take place on Tuesday 1 December 2026, from 12h00 to 13h00 CET.
